Parkade E-News

We are building our lives one choice at a time. How we build our lives determines how well our lives stand up to the storms of life. This Sunday Pastor Chris will conclude the sermon series on the Sermon on the Mount where Jesus calls us to build our lives upon His word. We will be in Matthew 7:24-29 where Jesus speaks of two builders, a wise one who builds his house on the rock and a foolish one who builds his house upon the sand. We hope you can join us Sunday at 10:30 am either in person or online.

Deacon of the Week, September 19-26, Richard White

This Sunday, Tim Wright, a representative from Gideons International will be with us during the morning worship service to give a 10 minute report on the work of the Gideons. Following the service, a love offering will be taken at the door to support their work.

20th Anniversary

Please join us in celebrating the 20 year anniversary of Pastor Chris Cook on Saturday, September 25, at 4pm at Parkade Baptist Church. Please let us know you plan to attend by signing up in the Welcome Center or by emailing the church office here.

There is also a basket in the Welcome Center for cards to write a personal note of your appreciation for Chris’ service.

An Important word about the Church

Due to the ongoing concerns of COVID and a limited staff, we continue to operate with fewer staff members and fewer volunteers.   This places a heavier burden and greater demand on our current staff and volunteers to accomplish our mission as a church from week to week.  The challenges and unexpected changes that have been thrust upon us in the past year and a half have led to a lot of emotional exhaustion and set up the conditions for burnout among those who are actively offering in person service at this time.

The staff and active volunteers appreciate your patience and understanding of their human limitations during this time.  The Search Committee is currently working to secure a fulltime Pastor of Discipleship and Student Ministry who will give direction to Sunday School/small groups and student ministry.  This will expand the capacity of our staff to give leadership and oversight to vital ministries within our church.

Also, following the Biblical model of Acts 6:1-7, we have Deacons who are elected by the church to provide spiritual guidance and care to church membership.  If you have a spiritual need or concern, or need prayer, please contact your Deacon or the Deacon of the Week.  Each week you will find the Deacon of the Week listed in the Bulletin and Thursday E-News Newsletter.  Our Deacons are good about sharing and communicating these needs with the Pastor and staff.  Scripture tells us that Deacons were selected in the early church to prevent burnout among the Apostles who were tasked with the responsibility of preaching the Word.

While COVID and our limited staff situation have created many unique challenges, we can overcome these challenges, avoid burnout, and thrive if we will have realistic expectations and follow God’s design for the church as prescribed in the scripture.
Attention: Small Group/Sunday School Leaders

There will be a Small Group/Sunday School Leaders meeting on Sunday, September 26 at 3 pm in the Welcome Center. This will be a time of planning, goal setting and, of course, fellowship and sweet treats. Please come prepared to share what your group is doing so we can promote your small group or Sunday School. Your involvement and leadership are important to the growth of our Small Group/Sunday School Ministry.

Search Committee Updated

This week the Search Committee will be interviewing candidates for the position of Pastor of Discipleship and Student Ministry. Please keep the committee and the search process in your prayers. Members of the Search Committee include Todd Straw, Shelly Crawford, Laura Miller, Debi Smith, John Hendrickson, Richard White and Elizabeth Cook.

Blessing Box Needs

Thank you to everyone who has helped feed and provide for those in need in our community by contributing items or through a designated offering to the Blessing Box through the church. Our box is definitely being used. Please remember nonperishable items (no bread or dairy, fresh fruit or vegetables); pull top cans are helpful, and if you put items directly into the Blessing Box please mark out the barcode.

The following items are currently needed:

      Shampoo

      Cereals

      Pasta sauce

      Peanut butter

Canned meals, such as spaghetti, ravioli, beefaroni, etc.

You can also support this ministry by giving a money donation. If giving money, please mark your gift “Blessing Box.”

We are in desperate need of preschool workers from 9:00 am to 10:30 am on Sunday mornings during the Sunday School hour. Volunteers must either have a background check on file with the church office or be willing to have a background check completed. If you can help please contact Christy Winston.
Starting Sunday,
September 26th

Pastor Chris will begin a new sermon series out of the book of Colossians. The sermon series will challenge us to grow deeper and live stronger for Christ.
